These tumors are hidden from usual clinical observation. They cannot be felt and are typically found in tissue samples taken after the prostate has been removed because of a benign obstructive disease or when biopsies are taken after ultrasound shows something suspicious.
Stage A-1
The tumor is limited to less than 5 percent of the prostate tissue removed at surgery and is low grade.
Standard Treatment Most men do not require treatment for this stage of tumor. It is slow growing and will rarely cause symptoms. Fewer than 2 percent will have unsuspected spread to lymph nodes when the tumor is discovered.
